Have questions about our surf trip? We've got all the answers you need.
You can also always get in touch directly with us via WhatsApp or e-mail.
Age is just a number. While our groups’ average age is between 25 and 35 years old, we often receive guests that just turned eighteen or surfers that are over fifty.
We believe spending time with friends of different ages, nationalities and backgrounds leads to enriching experiences.
To book a surf trip by yourself, you must be at least 18 years old. On some o four surf trips we accept younger surfers, so get in touch with us to find the perfect solution for you.
About 1 in 3 guests that join our surf trips never touched a surfboard before. Almost all of our surf trips are open to people looking to stand up for the first time and for beginners that already have some experience in the water and would benefit from a week of structured surf lessons.
Only the Ghana surf trip and the Maldives boat trips (both the retreat and the open weeks) are for intermediate and above surfers only (level 2.1 and above).

To join the surf lessons you need to know how to swim.
If you have never surfed before or are a beginner surfer and you are joining surf lessons or coaching: wetsuit and surfboard are always included in the package!
If you are an intermediate or advanced surfer joining the surf guiding, you should bring your own surf equipment as it’s not included in the package.
If you need to rent material, let us know in advance so we can arrange a surfboard similar to what you’re usually riding at home.
The maximum number of students for each surf instructor is 6 to 8 students max. across all of our retreats and partner surf houses and camps.
We always partner with local surf schools and our partner surf schools always do their best in order to have one instructor for 4 students.
Yes, joining for longer than one week is possible in our local partners surf houses. During our surf retreats, it is possible only when we have more than one consecutive surf weeks in the same location.
Shorter stays (minimum 5 nights) are possible in some of our partners’ surf houses.
If you'd like to join different surf weeks over a period of time, it's entirely possible.
A few of the itineraries we recommend:
Summer: 1 week Road Trip North Portugal + 1 week in the Santa Cruz Surf House + 1 week at the Algarve Glamping Retreat in the Algarve
Winter: 1 week Road Trip Morocco + 1 week Surf Retreat in Aourir + 1 week further south (get in touch for more info)
And remember, you can always get in touch with us and we'll help you design your perfect surf trip.
Some of our surf trips are exclusively for intermediate and advanced surfers.
To ensure that all surfers on these trips (Ghana, Maldives) have a similar level, only intermediate (level 2.1) and above surfers can join.
As there are no surf lessons on these surf trips, you need to be an autonomous surfer and must be able to:
- consistently catch unbroken waves by yourself (unassisted)
- angle your take-off to go left or right on the wave
- draw your line on a “green wave” with a minimum of control
- feel comfortable in head-high waves and in a variety of conditions
For all other trips, you can join the surf lessons if you have never surfed before or are a beginner surfer with some water experience.
If you are traveling by yourself, you have the choice of sleeping on a single bed in a room/tent/cabin/bungalow with other Surf Tribe guests, or pay an extra fee to have a private accommodation just for yourself.
We always try to separate men and women in the double shared rooms. This is often but not always possible.
If you would like to make sure that you are in a same-sex-only shared accommodation, please let us know when booking your surf trip and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Flights are not included in our packages. We recommend booking online rather than going through a travel agency, as you can often find better prices with a bit of advance and planning. For our flights, we usually use Google Flights, Skyscanner or Kayak.
Transfer from/to the airport (or bus station) is included in most of our surf trips. Please check the “How to get there” section for each trip and get in touch with us if you have any questions.
At the moment we don’t have any open volunteering or job opportunities.
If you would like to be part of the team or collaborate with us, complete this short form.
If you don’t have your own travel insurance, we suggest you get one that covers extreme sports such as surfing, prior to departure.
We can add Allianz’s travel insurance to your package - if you are interested please let us know when booking your surf trip.
The price for the Allianz travel insurance is 7%-8% of the package price (depending on the surf trip). You can see all the details here.
It depends on the surf trip; in some of them everything is included and in others some of the meals are on your own. Always check the section "package" section in the surf trip pages.
We usually cook together (guests often have access to a kitchen) or go to delicious local restaurants and bars.
If you are vegetarian or vegan or if you have dietary restrictions or intolerances please let us know in advance and we will make sure to take care of it.
On most of our surf trips the weeks are always open and confirmed (depending on availability) and you can book your spot as soon as we confirm availability.
Surf Houses & Surfaris (open weeks with local partners): surf weeks are available almost year-round and are always confirmed. When you book we will check availability and block your spot.
Surf Retreats (surf trips and adventures with The Surf Tribe): most of our surf retreat weeks are confirmed. For some of the trips we have a minimum number of participants and we will confirm the trip 45 days before departure (eg: Maldives Boat Trip, Ghana Surf Adventure)
Different cancel conditions apply depending on the surf trips. You can check the conditions in the "All you need to know" section of the surf trip pages. When no special conditions apply, you can refer to our Terms & Conditions page.
We always try to do our best in the unfortunate event that you have to cancel a trip.
The price in the packages varies according to the experience and if you choose the Surf Lessons or the Surf Guiding.
Most destinations have different room options (shared, private) with different price points. For some of the trips, prices also changed depending on the season (a surf week in Summer - high season - will have a higher price than one in low season).
You can request your online free quotation for your preferred surf trip when clicking "join surf trip".
After choosing the dates, room, number of people and the trip you want to take on the reservation form, we will get in touch with you to confirm availability within 24h.
Once availability is confirmed we will only need your address to provide you with the final invoice. Following payment you will receive a booking confirmation with all necessary information contacts and details: you're ready for your surf trip!
To confirm your booking request you will need to pay the full surf trip amount. For a few of our surf trips it is possible to block your spot on the trip with just a deposit.
Don't hesitate to get in touch with Kata & Ric via email or WhatsApp if you have any doubts or questions.

90% of the guests joining us are solo travelers and they come from all over Europe (and sometimes from more faraway lands). Our guests are on average between 25 and 35 years old and the groups are often very diverse and international, but each trip is a bit different.
Regardless of age, the guests that join our surf trips are looking for an experience that focuses on surfing progression, chill vibes, connection to nature and sharing good times with like-minded people. We all enjoy going out or enjoying a sunset cocktail, but this is not the right experience if you are looking to party all week.
